Iron Armour Academy was born from a conviction that every young Australian deserves a trusted adult in their corner — someone who believes in them unconditionally and helps them forge their own path.
Iron Armour Academy was founded in 2012 by industry professionals determined to close the gap in mental health support for young people. What began with just eight young people training and being mentored in a garage in Melbourne's western suburbs has grown into a movement supporting individuals, families and communities across Australia, New Zealand and beyond.
Our founders, once high school teammates in New Zealand, reconnected years later in Melbourne with a shared mission: to ensure young people have the guidance, resilience and support they wished they had growing up. Having experienced first hand the pressures of elite sport, injury, rejection, and the devastating impact of youth suicide, they recognised a common problem — young people lacked the tools and mentoring needed to navigate life's toughest moments. From that real-life experience, Iron Armour was built.
Today, we deliver tailored, evidence-based mentoring, performance, prevention and intervention programs across primary and secondary schools, the juvenile justice sector, grassroots and professional sporting clubs. Our programs strengthen mindset, build life skills, and create pathways to education, sport and career opportunities — including school scholarships and national and international pathways. Recognised as one of Australia's leading youth mentoring programs, Iron Armour stands beside young people — guiding them to believe in themselves and win the Game of Life.

Every mentor holds a current Working With Children Check and is trained in mandatory reporting, trauma-informed practice, and our Child Safety Policy. We maintain full public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
Our programs are grounded in research from the Australian Institute of Family Studies and align with the Australian Student Wellbeing Framework. We measure outcomes rigorously and report transparently to every partner.
All mentors complete a comprehensive training program covering youth development, cultural competency, de-escalation techniques, and strengths-based mentoring. Ongoing professional development ensures our team stays at the forefront of best practice.
